Charles Stefan, often referred to as Chuck, graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in sports medicine. He completed a master's program in athletic medicine at Canisius College then worked as an athletic trainer at the University at Buffalo at the Sports Medicine Institute from 1990-1995. Chuck worked as an instructor of athletic training at Genesee community college from 1996-1997, and next accepted a position as an instructor at Alfred University from 1997-1999 in athletic training and sports medicine. Chuck then went on to complete a physician assistant degree at Lemoyne college in 2001. He has been working as an orthopedic physician assistant since that time.
